Guru Poornima 2024 | A Confluence of Gratitude and Blessedness

Every year, when the annual holiday calendar arrives, most people scan for long weekends or their favourite festivals like Eid or Diwali. But a disciple’s search narrows down to the month of July, seeking the luminous date of Guru Poornima—an opportunity to express gratitude and reverence to the entire Guru Parampara (lineage of Gurus since the beginning of time), and of course, the all-pervading Guru Tattva.

Since SRM believes in an abundance of all things good and pure, we don’t celebrate Guru Poornima for just a day. Like every year, this most anticipated occasion was celebrated for three consecutive days, from 19th to 21st July, at Sathya Sai Auditorium in Delhi.

Honouring a Sacred Commitment

Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution is widely known, but we seldom contemplate how we might have evolved without the guidance of a mentor at every step. Sri Guru began the celebrations by emphasising the significance of Guru Tattva and Guru Poornima, helping us realise our deep indebtedness to the entire lineage of Gurus in ways beyond our contemplation.

It is a testament to the clarity of Sri Guru’s teachings and the power of her Love that so many seekers, both young and old, recognize their blessedness and are determined to rise above fleeting pleasures to walk the path shown by the Guru with all their heart and soul. In the most clear illustration of this fact, over 200 couples have embraced a life of Brahmacharya (celibacy), inspired by the Sanyaas Vivaah in October 2023. On this special occasion, these couples were blessed with a letter signed by Sri Guru, affirming seven sacred vows of spiritual companionship in the presence of Guru Tattva.

In return, Sri Guru gifted these sincere seekers—and all of us—a precious tool: a musical rendition of Shrimad Rajchandraji’s Mokshmala Shikshapaath 34, Jeeta Sab Sansaar. Translated from the original Gujarati verses, it paints a powerful portrait of Brahmacharya, inspiring us to overcome the primal human instinct for sensual pleasure and remain steadfast on the spiritual path.

Additionally, SRM launched the ‘Chaturmas Diary,’ offering practices to deepen our connection and inner growth throughout the holy months of Chaturmas (and beyond).

Expressions of Gratitude and Devotion

A Guru radiates Love, which becomes a catalyst for the transformation of many seekers. This Love, while ineffable and deeply personal, finds expression through the devotion and gratitude of disciples. Saturday evening was devoted to such heartfelt expressions of Love. The event began with the Guru Aarti, honouring the entire lineage of Gurus, followed by various forms of devotion showcased by seekers through speeches, dance, bhakti, and skits.

This year, even the performances embodied a sense of oneness, as for the first time at SRM, seekers from various parts of the country—Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, and more—came together to present a skit dedicated to their Living Master. Titled ‘Prem Ibadat’, the skit depicted the story of Sufi Saint Bulleh Shah and his Guru, Inayat Shah. Combined with segments of bhakti and dance performances, this play captured the audience’s hearts, deepening their own sense of devotion toward Sri Guru.

The evening was further enriched by the launch of ‘Dear Seeker’, a collection of 12 letters (in English and Hindi) personally written by Sri Guru to guide those on the path of self-discovery. In addition, Gautam Prabhu had another big surprise for the seekers: the announcement that SRM will celebrate this year’s Paryushan Parv as a Festival of Meditation (31st Aug – 7th Sep), where seekers will be led into a guided meditation by Sri Guru each evening of the festival!

The evening concluded with Sri Guru bestowing a special gift upon the seekers—Sri Guru Prasadam, a rudraksh energised by Sri Guru, intended to strengthen the seekers’ connection with Guru Consciousness.

Param Satsang with Sri Guru

One evening wasn’t enough to embrace all the new tools Sri Guru had carefully designed for our spiritual growth. Thus, the series of launches continued on Sunday. After a successful journey with previous courses, SRM introduced Part 3 (Karma Yog) of the Bhagavad Gita Online Course Series, along with the Ishavasya Upanishad exam to further this process of learning. Additionally, Gautam Prabhu announced the results of the Atmasiddhi Shastra Exam (Part-3), where all the rank holders were thrilled to be rewarded with a trip to Idar with Sri Guru!

With the onset of Chaturmas, Sri Guru also introduced the ‘Raj Tap’ to harness the potent spiritual energies of this period through a disciplined food diet in the month of August.

As the celebrations neared their conclusion, Sri Guru uplifted the seekers into a higher state with Param Satsang. Drawing upon Adhyatma Upanishad, she explained the role of Shravan (Listening), Manan (Contemplation), Nididhyasan (Radiance), and Samadhi in evolving a human being through 4 stages of consciousness. A guided meditation deepened this experience, leaving the seekers bathed in a feeling of lightness. It was as if JLP (joy, love, and peace) whispered an irresistible invitation, promising to permeate their lives in the days ahead.

Innumerable are the ways in which a Guru guides us on the greatest journey towards the pinnacle of evolution. Our hearts overflow with eternal gratitude for the presence of this guiding Light in our lives..!
