A seeker decided to travel the world in his quest for the Divine. On his journey, he visited a grim town where he witnessed a lot of suffering – a crippled beggar, an old woman getting beaten, and a child who died after being hit by a car. Devastated, he ran out of the town into the vast open desert, and screamed to God, “Oh God! Why is there so much pain? Why is there so much injustice? Why don’t You do something?”
He fell on his knees and started crying, continuing to plead, “Why don’t You do something, my Lord? Why don’t You do something?”
The seeker’s anguish became so intense that he began banging his fists on the desert floor. He kept repeating the same question over and over again, until he fell into an ecstatic state and heard the Divine reply, “I did do something. I created you.”
Freedom to serve is our greatest freedom. And our greatest duty, too.
Let’s use it to honor all other forms of freedom that we enjoy.
Let’s use it to fulfil the reason for our creation.
