There was once a majestic river, separating a village from a land of unimaginable beauty. Every now and then, a courageous villager would cross the river, returning with tales of this breathtaking place.
One such villager had a perilous return trip, barely escaping the river’s fury. For the sake of the safety of his fellow villagers, he erected a sign: “Danger! Do not cross the river in the monsoon, very swift current!”. The villages celebrated his return, and expressed gratitude for his warning.
Years passed. The signboard weathered, and its inscription started to fade. After one generation, the signboard read: “Danger! Do not cross the river in the monsoon”.
After a few more generations, the only words that remained were: “Danger! Do not cross the river”.
Just like the weathered signboard, scriptures can lose their true meaning without the guidance of someone who has traversed the river of Enlightenment.
Let us start this special month with feelings of utmost gratitude for the presence of all such Enlightened Masters..!
