On the spiritual path, there are two yardsticks to measure progress.
The first one, growth, is what you use for self-monitoring. The other, transformation, is what others use to evaluate you.
Growth is like the invisible process of water evaporating to form clouds in the summer. Transformation is when the first drops of rain announce the arrival of monsoon.
Growth is the caterpillar patiently struggling inside its cocoon. Transformation is when the butterfly emerges.
Growth is Bhakt Prahlad worshipping Lord Vishnu instead of his evil father. Transformation is him being unscathed by the fire that burnt Holika.
Growth is in the (right) effort. Transformation is in the Grace.
Growth is uncomfortable. But when persisted, transformation is inevitable.
