Tapa (तप) is used to denote a wide spectrum of austere religious practices. Prescribed across multiple religions in Indian culture (such as Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism), Tapa is performed for various purposes like improving self-discipline, enhancing a particular skill, offering to a deity, or for one’s own spiritual progress. However, with time, the significance of Tapa has witnessed a steep decline, with its practice being confined to merely fasting in the name of Vrat (व्रत) or Upvaas (उपवास). What proved to be an extremely useful tool to curb one’s worldly desires, indulgence, over-consumption, and greed, is now just a dry ritual among religious sects.

Here, Sri Guru brings forth the true meaning and potential of Tapa, along with its multi-dimensional benefits.
