Once, a Krishna devotee had a dream in which Lord Krishna promised him, “I will soon come to your house to eat Maakhan (butter).”
When the devotee woke up in the morning, his heart was filled with joy. He gathered diyas, flowers, and other decorations and spent the entire day decorating his house and courtyard.
At night, he went to sleep tired, and had another dream. This time, it was not Lord Krishna, but His gopis who appeared in the dream.
One of the gopis asked, “Is all this decoration for Him or for you?”
The devotee said, “The decoration is entirely for Him, of course!”
The gopi said, “Then why don’t you do the decoration the way He likes it?”
The devotee pleaded, “Please tell me what kind of decoration my God likes? I want to make this house dazzle with beauty for His arrival!”
The gopi smiled and said, “Krishna will come in your heart, and eat the Maakhan of your devotion! So do decorate, embellish, and beautify for Him but…
Decorate your mind with pure thoughts and feelings,
Embellish your heart with His remembrance,
Beautify your soul with the garland of virtues…!”
